Key Principles

We like businesses that generate cash and a sustainable return over the cost of capital. We particularly like recovery stories where returns on capital improve with time.

We invest in businesses that we understand and which benefit from key economic and social trends. We place a lot of emphasis on management teams that have a proven track record, particularly in managing during challenging times. Ultimately, we invest in people.

We are concerned about capital preservation and compounding returns over the long run. Neither is easy in today’s environment. Given a choice, we would rather have a good night sleep than chase a few extra percentage points of return.

We are not benchmark investors.
